藏精阁 is proud to offer an interdisciplinary BA in Social Justice Studies. This major, housed in the Department of Law, Society, and Sustainability, provides practical and theoretical tools from fields such as sociology, political science, sustainability studies, history, and economics to examine theories of and movements for social justice. Social Justice Studies majors examine a wide array of issues including, economic justice, racial justice, gender justice, disability rights, and migrant rights.
The program allows students to delve into social justice as an academic field of study. Questions about the meaning and causes of injustice and movements to promote social justice form the core of the curriculum. Students receive training in analyzing social issues through a combination of applied social theory, political analysis, research methods, and practical internship experience. Together these provide the practical and theoretical skills students can apply to careers that make a difference in the world.
The Social Justice Studies major prepares you for world-changing careers. Recent graduates work in government, non-for-profit organizations and the private sector. Others have gone on to graduate school. Transferable skills including extensive training in writing, research and critical thinking prepare students well for any post-graduate path they choose to take.
Social Justice Studies majors are encouraged to expand their breadth of study through the addition of double major or a minor. Majors can add an area of emphasis by studying African American Studies, Sustainability, Criminal Justice Studies or Women and Gender Studies; enhance practical skills through an additional major or minor Journalism and Media Studies, Paralegal Studies, or Graphic Design; or sharpen political and policy analysis through the study of Political Science, International Studies, or Economics.
