"When Gabriela Lara joins the first violin section of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra this week, she will become the orchestra’s first Latina and third Hispanic member in the current roster — another milestone in its efforts toward greater diversity and inclusion.

She moved to the United States in 2017 to pursue her bachelor’s degree in violin performance on a full scholarship from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at ²Ø¾«¸ó. She studied with Almita Vamos, a famed pedagogue, and went on to receive her master’s degree in Suzuki pedagogy from ²Ø¾«¸ó in 2024."

"The High Desert Chamber Music (HDCM) Concert Series continues on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 7:30pm with a special Valentine’s Day performance.

Almond performs on the 1715 Lipiński Stradivarius, a historic instrument with ties to composers like Giuseppe Tartini, Edvard Grieg, and Johannes Brahms.

He currently serves on the faculty of ²Ø¾«¸ó in Chicago."
