MOVE-IN SCHEDULE: FALL 2024 WABASH BUILDING AND UNIVERSITY CENTER

WABASH BUILDING RESIDENTS

WABASH BUILDING

The Wabash Building is located at 425 South Wabash Avenue between Van Buren and Congress. Wabash Avenue is a one-way street going southbound. We encourage you to approach Wabash North of Van Buren so that we can avoid congestion on the corner of Van Buren and Wabash.

CHECK-IN PROCESS

• All Wabash residents should plan to move-in on their designated move-in date (as listed above).  
• Residents are expected to schedule a move-in appointment.  
• If arriving by vehicle, students can pull up in front of the Wabash building (on Wabash Ave.) no earlier than 15 minutes from their move-in appointment.  
• Residents will be able to unload their belongings onto Speed Packs.
• Vehicles should not be left unattended in the unloading zone. Vehicles that are left unattended may get towed at the owner's expense.
• The unloading zone can be used for no more than 15 minutes. 
• After all items are unloaded from the vehicle, the vehicle should be taken to long term parking. �ؾ��� will not provide long term parking. We recommend you investigate a long-term parking option that best suits your need prior to arriving.  
• The resident should expect to go through three stations as part of their move-in experience; unloading zone (if arriving by vehicle), guest check-in (if they have any guests with them) and room key pick up (Level 1M).  
• Residents who do not have a �ؾ��� ID will be asked to get an ID prior to being issued a room key.  

Other important considerations

• All early arrival athletes will move into the building they are assigned to for the Fall term. Please note only approved early arrival athletes will be permitted to move in early, you may check with your coach to see if you are on the approved early arrival list.

MAIL/PACKAGES

Every student living in the Wabash building has their own mailbox. Mailbox number and combination will be emailed to the student at their �ؾ��� email account soon after moving in. Students can receive packages at the Wabash Building no earlier than 1 week prior to their move-in date. To retrieve packages sent to �ؾ��� upon arriving at campus, students should visit the Mail room, located on the 1st floor of the Auditorium building, in the lobby. Students living at the University Center may receive packages no earlier than 48 hours prior to their move-in day. The address is 425 S. Wabash Ave, Chicago, IL 60605.

MEAL PLANS

Meal plans for the Fall 2024 semester will be active on the day you move-in. Students will be able to utilize their meal plan in the McCormick Dining Center, located on the 2nd floor by presenting their University ID card when purchasing food items in the Dining Center.

UNIVERSITY CENTER RESIDENTS

University Center is located at 525 South State Street.

UNLOADING INSTRUCTIONS

At their designated appointment time, residents pull up via Ida B Wells Drive into Holden Court directly behind University Center to unload their belongings. Be sure to have someone stay with your vehicle at all times. Immediately after unloading, your vehicle must be moved to a nearby parking lot. Parking is not offered by the University Center as we are an urban campus. However, there are many parking lots and garages in the immediate area. Smart phone apps like Best Parking and Spot Hero are helpful in finding the best rates in the area. Prices will vary between parking options.

Other Considerations

• Each UC resident will be allowed 2 guests to be with them during their move-in experience.

SPEED PACKS

University Center provides giant cardboard boxes on wheels called Speed Packs. Speed Packs make your unloading process easy and efficient. They eliminate the need to carry your belongings. Most students can transport all of their belongings to their room in one to two trips. A school or state ID will need to be provided during use.

CHECK-IN PROCESS

Check-in is conducted on the second floor of University Center. Students receive a University Center ID, Bedroom/Closet key, Room Condition Report (RCR) instructions, mailbox combination, and meal plan information.

WHAT TO BRING

Moving into the residence hall can be a stressful experience, when trying to determine what to bring, what not to bring, and what is provided. We advise reviewing our lists below for guidance. If you forget anything important, there are a number of stores within walking distance that include CVS, Walgreens, Target, Jewel Osco (grocery), Macy's on State, Old Navy, Nordstrom Rack, and TJ Maxx!

Prohibited Items

In order to maintain a safe and inclusive living and learning environment in the residence halls, the following items are prohibited within the Wabash Building Residential Community:

• Unapproved pets (with the exception of fish in tanks not to exceed 10 gallons).
• “Daisy chains" made up of power strips and/or extension cords.
• Candles, incense, and wax warmers.
• Lava lamps.
• Appliances of any kind that emit an open flame or include an open heating element. This includes, but is not limited to, coffee makers (with a heating element), hot pots, hot plates, deep fryers, toasters, toaster ovens, open heating coils, and rice cookers.
• Electrical heating appliances, such as space heaters, and portable air conditioning units.
• Refrigerators greater than 6 cubic feet.
• Bed risers of any kind are not allowed.
• Free weights of any kind are not allowed.
• Any illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, and/or prescription drugs not prescribed to the resident.
• Firearms or weapons of any kind, including replicas or facsimiles. This includes, but is not limited to, pellet guns, paint guns, slingshots, airsoft guns, swords, foils, or archery equipment.
• Explosives, chemicals, or highly combustible materials. These include, but are not limited to, firecrackers, gasoline, vehicle batteries and/or unauthorized pesticides.
• Martial arts weapons and such potentially dangerous sporting equipment.
• Bicycles (must be stored in the bike room on the 1st floor of the Wabash Building).
• “Hover boards” and any motorized transportation devices including electric scooters.
• Alcohol apparatuses with an intended use of excessive consumption and/or high risk drinking (i.e. kegs, etc).
• Shot glasses, wine glasses, and any items with the intended use of consuming alcohol, by persons under 21 years of age.
• Alcohol, by persons under 21 years of age.
• E-cigarettes, "vaping" devices, and their respective accessories.
• "Ring" doorbells or any other video recording/cameras as doorbell devices.
• Any items which are prohibited under federal, state, or local laws.
