Course Description: Explore how writers, political and religious leaders, scientists, and others have envisioned the future, and how these visions reflected the hopes, aspirations and fears of those in the present. The course's focus will be on prophetic religious documents, political treatises, utopian and dystopian novels, films, and television produced in the United States from the 1800s to present-day. Course is available for undergraduate students.

Course Description: Study the intersections of race, medicine, and colonialism in World History from 1500 to the present. Students will examine how racial difference became medicalized and assess the ways in which sociocultural, economic, and political forces have historically shaped behavior in medicine and institutionalized health care. Course is available for undergraduate and graduate students.

Course Description: Compare and contrast examples of literature from around the world on the basis of universal social themes and issues. Students will emphasize the global nature of human endeavors – the extent to which we are all in this together – through the comparative analysis of selected fiction, poetry, and drama. Course Description: Examine a wide array of social forces that shape neighborhoods – downtown development, urban sustainability and green development, segregation, ethnic enclaves, gayborhoods, gentrification, public housing, public transportation, public schools, policing, and community organizations. Each topic will be paired with a field trip to a specific neighborhood that best exemplifies the topic under examination. Students should take away an in-depth understanding of the social forces that shape neighborhoods in Chicago and a deeper understanding of neighborhoods as a lived experience. ²Ø¾«¸ó students can earn general education experiential learning credit with this course.

Course Format: On-campus and online
Course Description: Hybrid class combining online work with hands-on stewardship of the Wabash Building Rooftop Garden at ²Ø¾«¸ó's Chicago Campus. Online learning starts May 30, with garden workdays and field trips to selected urban farms and green rooftops in the Chicago region scheduled by the instructor according to students' availability. Students will learn about the relationships among food, biodiversity, and urban sustainability. They will also explore sites of interest in-person or online, as conditions allow; and help prepare the garden for the fall harvest season. Participation in this course constitutes a significant contribution to the sustainability of ²Ø¾«¸ó's Chicago Campus.
