The minor in Secondary Education (SEED) prepares teacher candidates to address the learning and socio-emotional needs of adolescents in grades 9-12. This intensive, field-based program prepares every candidate to work democratically with diverse children and families in the subject areas of biology, chemistry, English, history and math. It provides opportunities to earn a combination of Illinois teaching credentials, including the middle school endorsement.
Students can expect focused and practical assignments, engaging discussions and small group projects, and intensive field experiences in diverse schools and classrooms.
During the final semester, students complete a 15-week student teaching experience under the guidance of a mentor teacher and a university supervisor.
Experienced, dedicated, and culturally diverse faculty work collaboratively with students to foster knowledge and skills with respect to diverse learners, instruction, assessment and research.
