About Me
Greetings! Thank you for seeking out 藏精阁 and then me, Ed. How can I help?
I am privileged to serve RU students and to maintain and advance our Mission from the Office of the Provost, a team of thoughtful, caring professionals who collaborate toward helping students, staff, faculty, and the broader RU Community of stakeholders.
Since the turn of the millennium my services as both action and thought leader have supported teams, systems, and policies in various contexts. From hospital security systems, to complex civil and administrative law litigation, to national security operations I built a portfolio of complementary knowledge, skills, and abilities mostly technologically bent in nature. In 2015 I found my forever "home" to continually improve these KSAs and new ones in service of higher education. I've learned from well over 1,000 students in my classes, and strive to contribute to thousands more through innovative course, degree program, and administrative policy developments. My teaching philosophy is simple: Keep students' interests top-of-mind and in accord with RU's Mission while adhering to academically sound (and approved) course objectives and program outcomes while, within that framework, introducing contemporary examples and phenomena as well as my own professional and life experiences.
Outside of the classroom, and not unlike the seemingly disparate career track above, I have various interests. Thousands of miles of hiking and backpacking trails, and a few (!) black bear encounters, highlight my outdoors-y side, which includes biking and paddleboarding. I've wrenched on, built up and broken, and raced a few Oldsmobile Cutlasses. The most ardent LP collectors might find me featured--meaning not good enough for permanence, but savvy enough for the name call-out--on a handful of garage/indie band recordings from Kentucky artists. There are very few bounds to my culinary curiosity, and so long as it does not involve baking (measurements and rules be damned!) I do quite well in the kitchen. Then, there's the Northsiders, a lifelong habit of pulling for the Chicago Cubs, year in, year out including 2016. The most patient, generous person in my life, Carin, and I live with our two cats (not all too patient) in Crete.
